Men's Track/Field Wins Three Events, Places Runner-up at Windy City Rumble

The Hope College men's indoor track and field team made plenty of noise at the University of Chicago's Windy City Rumble on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen recorded the top performances in three events en route to a runner-up total of 119.5 points in the eight-team event. 

Chicago took first with 267 points. Elmhurst University (Ill.) was third with 64.5.

In the 4x400 relay, senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan), sophomore Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft), sophomore Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison), and senior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) won in a time of 3 minutes, 38.56 seconds.

Meder also led a 1-2-3 Hope finish in the 800 meters by clocking a run of 1:54.98.

Vachon took second at 1:55.76. Guidone finished third at 1:56.09. Freshman Owen Harries (Lexingston, S.C. / Lexington) was sixth at 1:59.38.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchil)  won after posting a time of 8.43 seconds. Player finished only 0.04 off of his school record set earlier this season. 

The Flying Dutchmen finished runner-up in two events.

Sophomore David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores) led a 2-3-4 Hope finish in the 400 meters by clocking a time of 52.90 seconds.

Woolum placed third at 52.92. Freshman Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) took fourth at 52.97. Sophomore Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) was sixth at 53.97.

In the men's distance medley relay, the Flying Dutchmen recorded a second-place time of 11:14.83 from freshmen Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School), Andrew Tilly (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township), Chad Perrine (Jackson, Michigan / Jackson), and Nile Devers (Gobles, Michigan / Gobles).

Hope posted third-place efforts in two events.

In the pole vault, senior Zach Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) cleared 3.99 meters for third place.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Ryan Allspach (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / Glenbard South) clocked a third-place time of 16:24.40. 

Two more Flying Dutchmen scored in the event: junior Jack Tamlyn (Grand Rapids, Michigan / West Michigan Aviation Academy) in fourth at 16:33.16 and freshman Luke Skurtatowicz (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) in sixth at 16:58.59.

In the 200 meters, freshman Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) raced to a fourth-place time of 23.44 seconds. Player took seventh at 23.942.

Danitz also recorded a fifth-place sprint in the 60 meters of 7.16 seconds.

In the triple jump, sophomore Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) finished fifth by leaping 11.29 meters.

In the high jump, Player cleared 1.75 meters for fifth place. Junior Nathan Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) tied for seventh after a leap of 1.65 meters.

In the weight throw, junior Silas Kubicki (South Bend, Indiana / James W. Riley) posted a seventh-place toss of 12.37 meters.

Colbrunn tied for eighth in the long jump after leaping 5.26 meters.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. at Aquinas College.
