Women's Swim/Dive Earns Scholar All-America Team, Academic All-District® Honors

The Hope College women's and men's swimming and diving teams have both claimed several national academic honors.

The Flying Dutch and the Flying Dutchmen both have been named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Fall 2022 Scholar All-America Teams and both have four of their student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.

The Flying Dutch earned their CSCAA honor with a 3.53 team grade point average last semester. The 2023 MIAA champions are among 184 women's teams with the CSCAA distinction.

The Flying Dutchmen claimed theirs with a 3.39 team grade point average and are among 141 men's teams with the CSCAA distinction.

The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later this month.

Three women's swimmers and one women's diver made the Academic All-District® Team:
  • senior swimmer and nursing major Alyssa Kerkman (South Bend, Indiana / St. Joseph HS);
  • junior diver and Spanish major Sophia Farbarzhevich (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern);
  • junior swimmer and nursing major Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn);
  • and sophomore swimmer and exercise science major Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford).
Three men's swimmers and one men's diver earned Academic All-District® honors: 
  • senior swimmer and business major Bailey Smith (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview); 
  • junior swimmer and business/economics major Ben Catton (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian);
  • sophomore swimmer and public accounting/business major Conner Halberg (Novi, Michigan / Northville);
  • and sophomore swimmer and biology major Colin Kalkman (Zeeland East, Michigan / Holland Christian).

The Division III CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
