Women's Tennis Blanks Augustana

The Hope College women's tennis team downed Augustana College (Ill.) in a 9-0 victory on Saturday. 

The shutout win at DeWitt Tennis Center put the Flying Dutch at 3-3 thus far this season. 

In No. 1 doubles, the pairing of freshman Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and sophomore Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) snagged their win 8-3. 

No. 2 doubles partners sophomore Miyako Coffey and senior Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) won 8-4, while junior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and freshman Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) completed the doubles play sweep with an 8-3 win. 

In singles play, Lopykinski started off with 6-0 and 7-5 wins to give Hope its fourth point of the day in the No. 1 slot. 

Moran kept the Flying Dutch points coming with a 6-1 / 6-2 win over her Augustana opponents at No. 2 singles 

Both Weeber and Truman won in two sets at the No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, with Weeber tallying her win 6-0 and 6-2, and Truman bringing home a 6-3 / 6-2 win. 

Coffey at No. 4 singles won her first match before battling in the second set to a tiebreaker loss. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Xavier) native rebounded to win the third set 10-6 to take the win and complete the sweep of Augustana. 

The Flying Dutch travel to Florida to begin their spring break trip with their first match at the USTA Training Center in Orlando against University of West Georgia on Monday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m.
