Men's Track/Field Places Second at 16-Team Emory Spring Classic

The Hope College men's outdoor track and field team received 19 scoring performances en route to a runner-up finish at the Emory College (Ga.) Spring Classic this weekend near Atlanta.

The Flying Dutchmen totaled 86.5 points during the two-day meet that ended on Saturday. Emory won with 158 points.

Senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan HS) posted Hope's top performance with a second-place, 400-meter hurdle run of 57.10 seconds.

The Flying Dutchmen took third in five events.

In the 3,000 meter-steeplechase, junior Dan Campbell (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) led a group of three Hope scoring runners by clocking a runner-up time of 9:47.82. Senior Anders Bogard (Mattawan, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) placed fourth at 10:12.24. Freshman Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Holland) was sixth at 10:25.85.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) raced to a third-place run of 15.7 seconds. Woolum took eighth at 16.64.

In the 800 meters, sophomore Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) recorded a third-place time of 1:55.33 and edged sophomore Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) at the finish line. Guidone was fourth at 1:55.33.

In the 4x400 relay, freshman Wyatt Marsh (Grand Blanc, Michigan / Lake Fenton, sophomore David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores), Vachon and Woolum posted a third-place time of 3:23.88.

Vachon also finished fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.29.

In the 5,000 meters, freshman Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) clocked a third-place time of 1:58.39.

In the javelin, sophomore Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) threw a third-place toss of 46.07 meters (151 feet, 2 inches).

Hope earned points in five more events.

In the triple jump, Woolum cleared 12.50 meters (41-0 ¼) for fourth place. Kyle was seventh at 11.79 meters (38-8 ¼).

In the 10,000 meters, senior Gabe DeYoung (Saegertown, Pennsylvania / Saegertown) ran a fifth-place time of 33:37.73. Sophomore Ryan Allspach (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / Glenbard South) was sixth at 33:47.16.

In the 4x100 relay, sophomore Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland), McNiff, Player and Liam Dantiz clocked a run of 43.61 seconds for fifth place.

In the pole vault, senior Zach Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) tied for sixth at 4.0 meters (13-1 ½).

In the 400, Marsh took eighth with a run of 51.08 seconds.

Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, March 24-25, at the Kennesaw State University (Ga.) Don McGarey Invitational.
