Indoor Track/Field Sets Four School Records at Last-Chance Meet

The Hope College men's and women's track and field team combined to set four school records this weekend during a late-chance meet on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.

Each team saw two records fall during the non-scoring two-day event hosted by Wartburg College.

In the men's 800 meters, junior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic HS) clocked a record run of 1 minute, 53.26 seconds.

The business and economics major finished second and eclipsed former teammate Nick Hoffman, who went 1:53.76 in 2022.

In the men's distance medley relay, Meder teamed with senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan), sophomore Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) and sophomore Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) recorded a school-record time of 9 minutes, 57.19 seconds

The Flying Dutchmen passed the previous record of 10:00.74, set in 2022, by Vachon, Nathan Trumble, Meder, and Hoffman.

This year's relay is the 16th fastest this season in NCAA Division III.

In the women's 200 meters, Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West) sprinted to a school-record run of 25.34 seconds. It marked the sixth time this season the freshman broke the record.

Schermerhorn is ranked 20th in the nation in the event.

In the 4x400 relay, Schermerhorn ran the second leg with senior Julie Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian, junior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) and senior Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn). The relay posted a school-record time of 3:57.75.

The relay raced past its previous record of 4:04.84, which was clocked earlier this season.
