Men's Track/Field Wins Three Events at GVSU

The Hope College men's outdoor track and field team won three events at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic on Friday.

In the 4x100 relay, sophomore Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland HS), freshman Nolan Sanders (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow), sophomore David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan  Mona Shores) and freshman Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) posted a first-place time of 42.50 seconds and finished 0.33 seconds ahead of NCAA Division III Purdue Northwest University.

In the 800 meters, the Flying Dutchmen went 1-2 as junior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) and sophomore Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) clocked times of 1:53.24 and 1:53.30, respectively. Sophomore Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) was sixth at 1:55.61.

In the unseeded pole vault division, senior Zach Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) cleared a season-high 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3 ½ inches) to take first place.

Hope also placed third in two events during the non-scoring meet.

In the 4x400 relay, freshman Wyatt Marsh (Grand Blanc, Michigan / Lake Fenton), Meder, Vachon and senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) finished third with a run of 3:22.93.

In the discus, freshman Carter Kruse (Rochester, Michigan / Warren De La Salle) posted a third-place and season-best toss of 37.98 meters (124-7). Sophomore Derik Smith (Niles, MIchigan / Edwardsburg) placed sixth at 35.55 meters (116-8). Freshman Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) was seventh at 35.01 (114-10).

Kruse recorded a fourth-place and season-best shot put of 12.14 meters (39-10).

In the 400 hurdles, Woolum clocked a fifth-place time of 57.24 seconds.

In the triple jump, Woolum finished fifth with a leap of 12.72 meters (41-8 ¾). Senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) was seventh at 12.31 meters (40-4 ¾).

In the 100-meter dash, Danitz clocked a fifth-place run of 10.93 seconds.

In the unseeded high jump, freshman Darion Nundley (Newport, Michigan / Woodhaven) took fifth by clearing 1.77 meters (5-9 ¾). Junior Nathan Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) and Player tied for sixth at the same height.

In the 400 meters, Woolum recorded a seventh-place run of 50.01 seconds.

In the 200, Danitz placed eighth at 21.88 seconds.

In the 110 hurdles, Player finished eighth at 15.29 seconds.

In the javelin, Daniels was eighth at 41.87 meters (137-4).

Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, at Davenport University.
