Women's Track/Field Sets School Record in the 4x400 Relay in Joliet, Illinois

The Hope College women's outdoor track and field team clocked a school-record time in the 4x400 relay at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Chance Invite this weekend in Joliet, Illinois.

Senior Julie Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian), freshman Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West), junior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) and senior Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) recorded a time of 3 minutes, 53.91 seconds.

The relay surpassed the 2013 Flying Dutch mark of 3:54.67 belonging to Jane Pearson, Aurelie McCarus, Catherine Calyore and Sarah Venlet).

Hope finished second in the finals to Washington University in St. Louis, which went 3:48.05.

The Flying Dutch also posted a team season-best time in the 800 meters, where senior Ellie Jankowski (Granger, Indiana / Penn) crossed the finish line at 2:15.97 and took 12th.

Hope reached the Top 10 in two more events.

Schermerhorn placed fifth in the 200 meters with a run of 24.77.

In the 4x100 relay, freshman Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline), Behrens, Timperman and Schermerhorn recorded a sixth-place run of 48.62.

Hope's next meet is the Augustana College (Ill.) Midwest Twilight on Thursday, May 18.
