Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field MIAA Championships Preview

The Hope College women's and men's outdoor track and field teams hold 11 top seeds heading into this week's MIAA Championships.

The two-day meet at Olivet College begins on Friday, May 4, at noon.

The Flying Dutch hold No. 1 seeds in nine women's events. The Flying Dutchmen have two.

Hope is ranked 1-2 in the women's 200 meters and the women's 1,500 meters.

In the women's 200 meters, freshman Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) ranks first at 24.39 seconds. Senior Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) is second at 24.95.

In the 1,500 meters, senior Ellie Jankowski (Granger, Indiana / Penn) sits first at 4:39.14. Junior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) is second at 4:41.95.

Jankowski also ranks first in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:18.44.

Senior Ana Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) is ranked first in two events as well: in the 5,000 meters at 16:10.91 and the 10,000 meters at 34:24.97.

In the men's 800 meters, junior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) sits first with a run of 1:52.04.

In the women's 100 meters, Schermerhorn is ranked first at 12.17 seconds.

In the women's 400 meters, Behrens is seeded first at 57.19 seconds.

In the women's 4x100 relay, the Flying Dutch are seeded first with a time of 47.82 seconds from freshman Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline), Behrens, senior Helen Dodge (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) and Schermerhorn entered.

In the women's 4x400 relay, Hope sits first with a run of 3:54.78 with freshman Hannah Tsiang (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton), freshman Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk rapids), senior Julie Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian) and Schermerhorn entered.

In the men's 4x400 relay, Hope ranks first at 3:19.93 with sophomore David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores), sophomore Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison), freshman Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) and sophomore Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland) entered.

Hope is seeded in the top three in 11 more events.

In the men's 4x100 relay, Hope is third at 42.50 seconds with Daniels, freshman Nolan Sanders (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow), McNiff and Danitz entered.

In the men's 100 meters, Daniels is second at 11.10 seconds.

In the men's 200 meters, Danitz sits second at 21.88 seconds.

In the men's 400 meters, freshman Wyatt Marsh (Grand Blanc, Michigan / Lake Fenton) is second with a run of 49.71 seconds.

In the men's 1,500, Vachon ranks second at 3:55.20.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) is seeded second at 15.10 seconds.

In the women's javelin, senior Riki Ediger (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hamilton) is seeded second with a toss of 36.40 meters. On the men's side, sophomore Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) ranks third at 48.00 meters.

In the women's hammer throw, senior Emma Althouse (Ludington, Michigan / Ludington) sits third with a toss of 43.32 meters.

In the men's high jump, Player is third for third at 1.83 meters.

In the women's shot put, sophomore Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) is seeded third at 12.61 meters.
