Senior Ana Tucker Chosen as MIAA Most Valuable Women's Track Athlete

Nine from Hope College make All-MIAA team

Hope College distance runner Ana Tucker has accomplished another rare feat.

The senior from Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) is the first member of the Flying Dutch and the third from the MIAA to sweep the Most Valuable Outdoor and Indoor Track Athletes honors in the same season.

Tucker joins Trine's Evie Bultemeyer (2019) and Adrian College's Rachel Dolphin (2016) in receiving both MVP awards within the same school year. The MIAA first sponsored indoor track and field as a sport in 2016.

This is the first MIAA Outdoor Track MVP award for the exercise science major. It marks the ninth time a Hope student-athlete has been selected as the outdoor recipient by the league's coaches.

In February, Tucker received MIAA Indoor Athlete of the Year distinction for the second time in her Hope career; she claimed the honor in 2021.

Last week, Tucker helped the Flying Dutch capture their third consecutive MIAA outdoor championship by winning the 5,000 meters on Friday at Olivet College and the 10,000 meters on Thursday.

Tucker is joined on the All-MIAA team by eight teammates: Grace Behrens, Helen Dodge, Erin Moran, Sara Schermerhorn, Samantha Schermerhorn, Ava Schmidt, Libby Strotman and Julie Timperman.

Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) claimed her second All-MIAA outdoor award. The environmental science major raced in the league champion 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Dodge (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) claimed her second All-MIAA outdoor distinction. The biology major ran on the league champion 4x400 relay.

Moran (Arlington Heights, Michigan / John Hersey) earned her first All-MIAA outdoor award. The psychology and social studies secondary education major raced on the league champion 4x400 relay.

Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) is All-MIAA in both outdoor and indoor as a freshman after winning the 100- and 200-meter races at the league meet as well as running legs on the champion 4x100 relay. In February, she won the 60 and 200-meter sprints at the indoor championships as well on the All-MIAA 4x400 relay.

Samantha Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) earned her first All-MIAA outdoor recognition. The senior public accounting and business major ran on the league champion 4x400 relay.

Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) claimed her first All-MIAA outdoor recognition as a freshman after running on the 4x100 relay.

Strotman (Park Ridge, Illinois / Maine Township) earned her first All-MIAA outdoor honor as a junior. The physical and health education major won the javelin with a toss of 36.07 meters (118 feet, 4 inches).

Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian) claimed her second All-MIAA outdoor award. The computer engineering major ran on the league champion 4x400 relay as a senior.
