Men's Golf Enjoys Sweet Treat with Strawberry Creek Classic Title

Senior Will Robson and sophomore Liam Casey both carded 1-under-par 71s on Tuesday to help the Hope College men's golf team roll to the championship of Carthage College's Strawberry Creek Classic.

The Flying Dutchmen topped the field with a final round of 288 for a 36-hole total of 574.

Hope finished 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Carthage and 20 strokes ahead of third-place Central College (Iowa) in the two-day, 21-team event.

"I am really proud of this team and this performance," head coach Scott Lokers said. "In the golf world, they talk about how difficult it is to follow a low round with another low round. To finish this tournament under par is a great accomplishment."

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) earned tournament medalist honors at 6-under-par (67-71—138).

Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) finished at 1-under-par for the tournament (72-71—143).

On Tuesday, senior Logan DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) carded an even-par 72.

Three Hope golfers shot 2-over-par on Tuesday: junior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll), junior Will Webb of Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) and sophomore Patrick Michael, Carmel, Indiana / Carmel).

Jackson recorded the third-lowest 36-hole total at 1-over (71-74—145).

Michael was fourth-lowest at 2-over (72-74—146).

Junior Jack Guerrera had a final-round of 79.
