No. 12-Ranked Women's Swim/Dive Tops Albion and Alma

The 12th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team posted the top performances in eight events en route to victories of 163-59 and 144-83 against Albion College and Alma College on Saturday at Hudsonville High School.

The Flying Dutch remained unbeaten in MIAA head-to-head competition this season after improving to 4-0.

Hope clocked the fastest five swims in the 200-yard backstroke.

Junior Grace Wesley (Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan / Grosse Pointe North HS) led the pack by clocking a time of 2 minutes, 17.22 seconds.

Wesley was followed by:
  • freshman Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia), 2:17.47;
  • freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern), 2:19.71;
  • junior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton), 2:19.99; 
  • senior Madeline Tessin (Waxhaw, North Carolina / Marvin Ridge), 2:20.21.
Hope went 1-2-3 in 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving.

On the 1-meter board, freshman
Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) posted a first-place score of 197.65 points. Sophomore Hope Weeda (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) took second with 191.40 points. Junior Molly Leonard (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) was third with 188.55 points.

On the 3-meter board, junior Michaela Sander (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores) recorded a winning total of 215.50 points. Weeda finished second with 180.76 points. Zupancic was third with 175.10 points.

Hope clocked the fastest two swims in two events.

In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) posted a first-place time of 1:56.73. McGee was runner-up at 2:04.37.

In the 200 butterfly, junior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) touched the wall with a winning effort of 2:18.85.

Stolle raced to a first-place 400 individual medley time of 4:48.34.

In the 1,650 freestyle, sophomore Ashlea Swingewood recorded a winning swim of 17:58.41.

In the 500 freestyle, freshman Paige Potter (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) took first by clocking a time of 5:28.61.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 27, against seventh-ranked University of Chicago at Holland Aquatic Center.
