Sprinter Liam Danitz Delivers Another 200-Meter School Record

It was another meet and another record for Hope College sprinter Liam Danitz.

The sophomore from West Branch, Michigan (Ogemaw Heights HS) broke his own indoor school record in the 200 meters on Saturday at Grand Valley State University.

Danitz raced to a second-place time of 22.24 seconds during the non-scoring Mike Lints Alumni Meet. Teammate Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) finished third at 22.60 seconds.

Danitz's time is converted to 22.64 seconds for NCAA Division III Championships qualifying consideration because of GVSU's oversized track. He surpassed his previous record of 22.65 seconds set on December 8 at Grand Valley State.

Hope recorded a total of 10 Top-10 performances during the meet that included NCAA Division II and III programs as well as NAIA.

In the triple jump, Woolum topped a 1-2-3 Flying Dutchmen finish by leaping 12.47 meters (40 feet, 11 inches). Junior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) placed runner-up at 11.88 meters (38-11 ¾). Freshman Evan Keolasy (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) was third at 11.38 meters (37-4).

In the 4x400 relay, Hope recorded a fourth-place time of 3:25.40 from junior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland), Danitz, junior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and sophomore Wyatt Marsh (Grand Blanc, Michigan / Lake Fenton).

In the 400 meters, Woolum clocked a fourth-place run of 59.66 seconds. Daniels was sixth at 50.74.

In the shot put, sophomore Carter Kruse (Rochester, Michigan / Warren De La Salle) placed fifth with a heave of 12.53 meters (41-1 ?). Freshman Flannery Wayne (Milan, Michigan / Milan) took seventh at 12.42 meters (40-9). Sophomores Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) and John Wenderski (Livonia, Michigan / University Detroit Jesuit) tied for ninth at 12.25 meters (40-2 ¼).

In the 60 meters, Danitz recorded a seventh-place run of 7.19 seconds. Daniels was eighth at 7.46.

In the weight throw, sophomore Brendyn Mroz (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grandville) placed eighth at 14.25 meters (46-9).

In the mile, sophomore Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) recorded a ninth-place time of 4:21.31.

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Jonas Fraley-Burgett (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) finished ninth with a run of 8:57.51. Sophomore Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School) was 10th at 8:58.34.

In the long jump, Keolasy took ninth by leaping 6.46 meters (21-2 ½).

Hope's next week is on Friday, Jan. 26, at noon at GVSU's Bill Clinger Classic.
