No. 12 Women's Swim/Dive Takes First in Four Events vs. No. 7 Chicago

The 12th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team clocked winning times in two individual events and two relays during a 170-107 loss to the seventh-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Junior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy HS) won the 50-yard freestyle and the 200 individual medley.

The Flying Dutch also took first in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

In the 50 freestyle, Gidley led a 1-2 Hope finish with a swim of 24.06 seconds. Junior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) placed second at 24.86.

In the 200 IM, Gidley recorded a winning effort of 2:07.05.

In the 200 medley relay, junior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), Ryle, Gidley and sophomore Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) clocked a first-place swim of 1:47.57.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Wasiniak, sophomore Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea), Ryle and senior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn) recorded a winning time of 1:38.61.

Hope also finished runner-up in six more events.

In the 100 backstroke, freshman Emma Hartman (Mason, Ohio / Mason) touched the wall with a second-place swim of 59.87.

In the 100 breaststroke, Kraus took second at 1:06.47.

In the 100 freestyle, Wasiniak finished runner-up at 53.74.

In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) placed second at 1:56.47.

In 1-meter diving, senior Cameron Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) posted a runner-up total of 238.05 points.

In 1-meter diving, junior Abby Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) recorded a second-place effort of 244.15 points.

Hope's next meet is the regular-season finale on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. against 15th-ranked Calvin University at the Holland Aquatic Center.
