Women's Swimmers Win Two Events at MIAA Relays

The Hope College women's swimming and diving team swam two first-place times and Top 10 times nationally in three events during the non-scoring MIAA Relays on Friday at Calvin University.

The Flying Dutch won the 200-yard butterfly relay and the 4x100 individual medley relay.

Hope ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 freestyle relay after runner-up finishes in both events. 

Junior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy HS) sits 10th in the 50 backstroke after clocking a split of 27.56 seconds.

In the 200 butterfly relay, senior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy), freshman Megan Wedeking (Lexington, Kentucky / Lexington Senior), freshman Emme D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) and junior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) posted a winning swim of 1:44.54.

In the 4x100 relay, Hope won behind a time of 3:59.56 from Hermann, sophomore Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern), sophomore Paige Potter (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) and Gidley.

The Flying Dutch took third in the event. Junior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea), senior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central), Potter and D'Errico finished in 4:10.69.

In the 200 medley relay, Hope ranks fourth in the nation after Hermann, senior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), Gidley and Turner posted a second-place time of 1:46.88.

The Flying Dutch also took third in the race. Wedeking, sophomore Dillon Horsley (Indianapolis, Indiana / North Central), D'Errico and Wasiniak touched the wall at 3:50.41.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Hope ranks sixth in NCAA Division III following a runner-up swim of 1:39.04 from Wasiniak, Turner, Ryle and Hermann. Wasiniak's leadoff split of 24:52 puts her 13th fastest in the nation in the 50 free.

The Flying Dutch also placed third in the event. Sophomore Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia), Horsley, Stolle and Sydney VanLente (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) recorded a swim of 1:41.57.

In the 200 backstroke relay, Hope finished second. Senior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton), McGee, Potter and sophomore Lillian Ryden (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) clocked a time of 1:52.17.

In the 200 breaststroke relay, the Flying Dutch posted a runner-up swim of 2:05.60 from Horsley, Stolle, sophomore Madi Remenschneider (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) and Ryle.

In the 500 progressive relay, Hope placed runner-up. VanLente, D'Errico, junior Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) and Martin clocked a time of 4:50.56.

In the 3x500 freestyle relay, Hope finished third. Sophomore Natalie Pitera (Livonia, Michigan / Stevenson), Martin and Wedeking touched the wall at 16:50.34.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Oct. 25, at 5:30 p.m. at Holland Aquatic Center, a double-dual against Albion College and The University of Olivet.
