Women's Swimming and Diving Alan Babbitt

13th-Ranked Women's Swim/Dive Wins Eight Events, Downs Alma

The 13th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team delivered eight first-place performances en route to a 108-88 victory against Alma College on Friday at the Holland Aquatic Center.

All seven individual winning efforts came from different swimmers. The meet was part of the college's One Big Weekend homecoming and family celebrations.

In the 200-yard freestyle, senior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) led a 1-2-3-4 Hope finish by clocking a time of 2 minutes, 00.38 seconds.

Freshman Megan Wedeking (Lexington, Kentucky / Lexington Senior) finished runner-up at 2:0.167 and was followed by senior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) in third at 2:02.08 and senior Katie Weedon (Whitinsville, Massachusetts / Whitinsville Christian) in fourth at 2:05.50.

In the 50 freestyle, the Orange and Blue went 1-2-3 behind sophomore Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia) in first at 25.92, sophomore Dillon Horsley (Indianapolis, Indiana / North Central) in second at 26.00, and sophomore Sydney VanLente (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) in third at 26.11.

In the 1,000 freestyle, Hope recorded the fastest two swims: junior Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) in first at a season-best 11:22.58 and sophomore Natalie Pitera (Livonia, Michigan / Stevenson) in second at 11:30.44.

In the 200 individual medley, junior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) placed first with a season-best swim of 2:09.46.

In the 100 butterfly, Wedeking clocked a winning time of 59.80.

In the 100 freestyle, junior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) posted a first-place and season-best swim of 52.88.

In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Paige Potter (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) won in 1:01.85.

The Flying Dutch took first in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Emmy Sower (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow), Potter, junior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville), and sophomore Lillian Ryden (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) went 1:51.85.

Hope's next meet is the West Michigan Invite on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 1-2, which includes Davenport University, Kalamazoo College, The University of Olivet, and Wabash College (Indiana).

The Flying Dutch will host the first day at the Holland Aquatic Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The final day at Kalamazoo will feature two sessions, with the first one at 11 a.m.
