Six Named to All-MIAA Volleyball Teams; Addie VanderWeide Repeats as MVP

Record-setting dominance propelled the MIAA-champion Hope College volleyball team to record-setting league honors.

The second-ranked Flying Dutch finished with six All-MIAA recipients, including four on the first team, the most ever for the program. During the regular season, Hope went 8-0 in league play and won all 24 sets against MIAA competition for the first time in program history and the first time by an MIAA champion in five years.

Senior outside hitter Addie VanderWeide led the accolades with a repeat selection as the MIAA's Most Valuable Player by the league's coaches.

VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) is joined on the All-MIAA First Team by three teammates: senior middle hitter Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian), junior setter Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) and senior outside hitter Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason).

Hope also placed two on the All-MIAA Second Team: senior libero Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin / Catholic Central) and sophomore middle hitter Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven).

VanderWeide joined current Flying Dutch head coach Becky Schmidt as Hope volleyball standouts chosen as MIAA MVP twice. Schmidt accomplished the feat in 1998 and 1997.

It is the ninth time a Hope student-athlete has been selected as MIAA MVP in women's volleyball. Other recipients include Tracy Westra (2021), Andrea Helminiak (2009), Amy Brower (2001), DeeAnn Knoll (1987) and Linda Percy (1988).

VanderWeide started all eight MIAA matches for the Flying Dutch. The business major totaled 96.5 points, 82 kills, 12 service aces and 77 digs with a hitting percentage of .311.

It is VanderWeide's second All-MIAA selection.

DeWeerd claimed All-MIAA honors for the third time after leading the league with a .450 hitting percentage in MIAA matches. The social major was a first-team selection in 2023 and a second-team selection in 2022.

Lee received All-MIAA First Team accolades for the third time. The biology major topped the MIAA with 10.95 assists per set in league play.

Lockett returned from injury to earn All-MIAA First Team honors for the second time. The business major ranked fourth in the MIAA with a .297 hitting percentage during league matches.

Burbridge earned All-MIAA Second Team recognition for the second time after ranking fourth in the MIAA with 1.29 blocks per set against league opponents.

Seib claimed All-MIAA Second Team accolades for the first time. The biology major ranked second in the MIAA with 5.24 digs per set in league play.
