Becky Schmidt Chosen as MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year

Becky Schmidt '99 has been chosen as the MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year for the second season in a row.

Schmidt guided Hope College to a 10-0 mark against league opponents this season, including regular-season and postseason matches.

"I am honored by this recognition and thankful for the student-athletes, coaches and administrators with whom I get to work," Schmidt said. "The volleyball coaches of the MIAA are a wonderful group of competitors who push each other to be their best and get the most from their teams."

The Flying Dutch, who are ranked second in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, won 30 of 31 sets played against MIAA teams during the regular season and the league tournament.

Hope repeated as MIAA regular-season and tournament champions this fall. The Flying Dutch clinched the MIAA's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 3-1 victory against Calvin University on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Schmidt was named the inaugural MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2023. The Flying Dutch went on to finish as national runner-up.

This MIAA Coach of the Year accolade adds to Schmidt's already extensive list of accolades. Over the course of her tenure, Schmidt has accumulated seven outright MIAA regular-season championships, two MIAA title shares, five MIAA Tournament titles and 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

The Flying Dutch have been selected to host an eight-team NCAA Regional this week, Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 21-23, at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope will face Greenville University (Illinois) in the regional opener on Thursday at 7 p.m.
