Four Earn AVCA All-Region Accolades; Addie VanderWeide Named Region 7 Player of the Year

Hope College seniors Addie VanderWeide, Alison DeWeerd and Annie Lockett joined junior Lauren Lee on the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region Teams for the 2024 season.

VanderWeide, an outside hitter, also was chosen as the AVCA Region 7 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

VanderWeide and her teammates were among 14 first-team all-region selections.

Head coach Becky Schmidt also received AVCA Region 7 Coach of the Year accolades.

The Flying Dutch head into the NCAA Division III Tournament this week ranked No. 2 in the AVCA national poll since Oct. 1. Hope, which is 23-2 overall, repeated as MIAA regular-season and tournament champion.

The 6-1 VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) claimed all-region distinction for the second team after topping the Flying Dutch in points per set (3.90) and kills per set (3.44) while hitting .271.

A business major, VanderWeide is a full-rotation player who ranks second on the team in digs (3.10).

VanderWeide was named the AVCA Co-National Player of the Year and a First Team All-American in 2023.

The 6-0 DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) earned all-region honors for the second time after leading the Flying Dutch in hitting percentage (.370) and ranking second in points per set (3.41).

A social work major, DeWeerd averaged 2.90 kills per set.

The 6-1 Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) received all-region accolades for the second time and the first time since 2022.

A business major, Lockett, returned from an injury that sidelined her in 2023 to rank second on the Flying Dutch in kills per set (2.97) while hitting .292.

The 5-7 Lee Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) claimed all-region honors for the third time after ranking second in the nation during the regular season in assists per set (11.36).

A biology major, Lee also averaged 2.83 digs per set.

Lee is a two-time AVCA All-American, earning first-team honors in 2022 and second-team honors in 2023.
