Softball Finishes Fifth in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

The Hope College softball team placed fifth in the 2024 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Flying Dutch finished with 39 points in the nine-team poll. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.

Trine University, last season's MIAA and national champion, topped the poll with 63 points and seven of eight possible first-place votes. 

Coaches could not vote for their teams. Calvin University took second with 58 points and two first-place votes. Adrian came in third with 45 points, while Alma College was fourth with 43.

Hope finished ahead of sixth-place Kalamazoo College (30 points), seventh-place Albion College and Saint Mary's College with 19 points apiece, and ninth-place The University of Olivet with eight points.

The Flying Dutch begin the season on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24, in Edwardsville, Illinois, by playing games against Fontbonne University (Mo.), Illinois College and Belhaven University (Miss.).

Hope's home opener is Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Olivet.

Head coach Michelle Brander Metiva is entering her first season leading the Flying Dutch.
