Twelve Earn All-MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Honors

The MIAA champion Flying Dutch have 10 swimmers and two divers recognized.

For the third consecutive season, Hope College student-athletes headline the All-MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Team as the Most Valuable Athletes, with diver Abby Koops and swimmer Greta Gidley earning the honor for 2024.

The teammates helped lead the Flying Dutch to a fourth consecutive MIAA championship last week at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern HS) and Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) are joined on the All-MIAA Team by 10 teammates, including senior Cameron Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville), juniors Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton), Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) and Grace Wesley (Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan / Grosse Pointe North); sophomores Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel), Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) and Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville); and freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern).

It is the sixth consecutive season and the 25th all-time that a Hope women's swimmer has claimed MIAA's Most Valuable honors.

It is the sixth time a Hope women's diver has. Koops joins Sarah Sheridan (2014-16) as a three-time selection.

This is the third All-MIAA selection for Koops, Kraus and Wesley; the second for Gidley, Hermann, Ryle, Swingewood and Wasiniak; and the first for Hamilton, Martin, Stolle and Turner.

Koops earned her third consecutive sweep of the boards at the MIAA Championships. The junior won on the 3-meter board with a score of 428.10 points and on the 1-meter board with a total of 415.95 points. 

Individually, Gidley and Kraus tied for highest-scorers at the MIAA Championships with 57 points from individual and relay events.

Gidley repeated as MIAA champion in the 200-yard individual medley by clocking a meet-record swim of 2 minutes. 0.79 seconds. 

The junior won the 100 butterfly in 55.08 seconds and placed second in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 51.07 in the finals. Gidley also competed in two relays, including the MIAA-record 400 medley relay and the runner-up 800 freestyle relay.

Kraus claimed her third sweep of MIAA women's backstroke titles, winning the 100 in 56.20 seconds and the 200 in 2:01.21, and placing runner-up in the 200 individual medley at 2:04.68.

The junior anchored the MIAA record-setting 400 freestyle relay and took second on the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.


Swingewood finished fourth in points scored at the MIAA Championships.

The sophomore repeated as MIAA champion in the 200 butterfly and recorded a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley. Swingewood finished third in the 500 freestyle with a swim of 5:06.61.

Martin totaled the meet's eighth-most points.

The junior earned an MIAA title in the 1,650 freestyle with a swim of 17:60. Martin took fourth in the 200 freestyle at 1:55.53 and the 500 freestyle at 5:11.45.

Ryle finished ninth in the meet scoring

The junior won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.09 and swam legs on the meet-record 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays.

Wesley recorded the 10th-most points. 

The junior posted a runner-up swim in the 200 butterfly at 2:10.43 and third in both the 400 individual medley at 3:35.37 and the 1,650 freestyle at 18:06.34.

Stolle placed 11th in the meet standings.

The freshman recorded third-place efforts of 1:04.33 in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke at 2:20.70 and the 200 individual medley at 2:05.49.

Hermann placed 13th.

The sophomore led off the meet-record 400 medley relay and took second in the 100 backstroke at 56.94 seconds.

Wasiniak was 15th in points scored.

The junior swam on the meet-record 200 freestyle relay while finishing third in the 100 freestyle at 51.09 seconds and the 200 freestyle at 1:52.20.

Turner swam on two third-place relays. The sophomore finished fourth in the 100 in the 100 freestyle of 51.23 secons.

In diving, Hamilton finished runner-up on the 1-meter board after scoring 344.15 points and took third on the 3-meter board with a total of 389.50 points.
