Men's Track and Field Posts Two Season-Best Efforts, Wins One Event at Aquinas

Hope competes at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic

The Hope College men's indoor track and field team won one event and posted two of the Flying Dutchmen's season-best performances on Friday at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Aquinas College.

Junior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland HS) raced to a first-place time in the 400 meters of 51.28 seconds.

Freshman Evan Keolasy (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) finished runner-up in the long jump by leaping a season-best 6.61 meters (21 feet, 8 ¾ inches). 

Sophomore Brendyn Mroz (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grandville) took eighth in the weight throw with a season-best heave of 14.59 meters (47-10 ½).

The split-squad Flying Dutchmen finished fourth out of eight college teams at the meet with 74 points.

Hope scored in a total of nine events.

In the 200 meters, sophomore Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) sprinted to a runner-up time of 22.62 points. Senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) was third at 23.44 seconds.

In the triple jump, Woolum placed third by leaping 12.36 meters (40-6 ¾). Junior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) was seventh at 11.63 meters (38-2).

In the 600 meters, Woolum clocked a third-place run of 1:25.11.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) recorded a third-place time of 8.64 seconds. Woolum was seventh at t9.07.

In the 60-meter dash, Danitz took fourth at 7.13 seconds.

In the 4x400 relay, Hope placed fourth behind a time of 3:36.32 from junior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West), Woolum, freshman Dylan Terpstra (Holland, Michigan / Holland) and junior Samuel Miller (Zionsville, Indiana / Zionsville).

In the 400 meters, Ennen clocked a sixth-place time of 52.49 seconds.

In the long jump. Woolum took seventh by leaping 6.09 meters (19-11 ¾).

Cornerstone University won the meet with 142 points.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. at Aquinas. The meet features teams from the MIAA and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
