No. 12 Women's Swim/Dive Tops No. 15 Calvin, Ends MIAA Dual Meets Unbeaten

A pair of 1-2-3 finishes helped propel the 12th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team to a 159-141 victory against 15th-ranked Calvin University on Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center.

The Flying Dutch finished MIAA dual meets with a perfect 5-0 league record.

Hope next will host the MIAA Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 21-24, at the Holland Aquatic Center. The league meet will determine the MIAA champion. The Flying Dutch are seeking a third consecutive MIAA title.

On Saturday, junior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) fronted a 1-2-3 Hope effort in the 100-yard backstroke by clocking a time of 58.94 seconds. Sophomore Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) placed runner-up at 59.51. Freshman Emma Hartman (Mason, Ohio / Mason) took third at 1:00.01.

In the 200 individual medley, Hermann led a 1-2-3 Flying Dutch finish by clocking a winning swim of 2:10.76. Freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) recorded a second-place time of 2:12.42. Sophomore Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) touched the wall in third at 2:14.17.

Hope recorded four more first-place performances, including a sweep of both dives and both sprint freestyle swims.

In 1-meter diving, senior Cameron Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) took first with a total of 233.35 points.

In 1-meter diving, junior Abby Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) posted a winning score of 249.05 points.

In the 50 freestyle, junior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) posted a first-place swim of 23.80 seconds.

In the 100 freestyle, sophomore Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) recorded a winning time of 53.40 seconds.

Hope took second in nine more events.

In the 100 breaststroke, junior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) finished runner-up at 1:08.35. Stolle was third at 1:09.02.

In the 200 breaststroke, Stolle placed second at 2:29.95.

In the 100 butterfly, Gidley touched the wall second at 56.28.

In the 200 butterfly, Swingewood recorded a runner-up effort of 2:12.98.

In the 200 backstroke, Kraus placed second at 2:07.91. Hartman was third at 2:09.48.

In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) took second at 1:56.33. Turner was third at 1:59.50.

In the 1,000 freestyle, junior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) clocked a runner-up swim of 10:57.26.

Hope finished runner-up in both relays.

The 200 medley relay of Hermann, Kraus, Gidley and Wasiniak posted a swim of 1:46.20.

The 400 freestyle relay of Turner, Kraus, freshman Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia) and freshman Lillian Ryden (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) clocked a time of 3:38.15.
