Senior Logan DeWitt fired a 2-over-par 74 on Friday at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale to lead the Hope College men's golf team during the opening round of its inaugural Bob Ebels Invitational.

DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) is three shots off the individual lead and tied for third place in a field of 37 golfers. Two Davenport University golfers fired 71s: Gunnar Schuster and Casey Patterson.

The final round of the 36-hole event is scheduled to tee off on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m.

NCAA Division II Davenport University holds the first-round team lead at 9-over. Hope is 11 strokes back in second place and 10 strokes ahead of third-place Adrian College.

The Bob Ebels Invitational honors former head coach Bob Ebels, who led the Flying Dutchmen from 1991 to 2017 before retiring.

Ebels guided the Flying Dutchmen to 10 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship appearances during his tenure, including each four of his final seasons. Hope finished in the Top 10 twice at nationals: sixth in 2017 and ninth in 2009.

The Flying Dutchmen also claimed 14 MIAA titles while Ebels was at the helm.

On Friday, junior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) sits in sixth place after carding a first-round 76.

Senior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) is in 10th place with a 78.

Junior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll) is one stroke behind Robson.
