Men's Track and Field Posts Four Top-3 Finishes at GVSU's Al Owens Classic

The Hope College men's track and field team recorded two second-place performances during this weekend's Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic in Allendale.

In the 1,500 meters, junior Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison HS) clocked a runner-up time and top collegiate time of 3 minutes, 53.30 seconds in a field of 45 runners.

In the 4x400 relay, junior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland), sophomore Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights), junior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) recorded a second-place run of 3:22.87.

The two-day, non-scoring meet concluded on Saturday.

Hope also placed third in the 4x400 relay with junior Samuel Miller (Zionsville, Indiana / Zionsville), freshman Dylan Terpstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), junior Vamsee Vemana (Canton, Michigan / Plymouth) and Junior David McNiff (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores) going 3:28.11.

The Flying Dutchmen's 4x400 relay of freshman Tim Peterson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern), Vachon, sophomore Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Catholic Central) and senior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) took sixth at 3:22.79.

In the 400 meters, Terpstra finished third with a time of 50.80 seconds. Ennen took sixth at 51.13. McNiff was eighth at 51.86.

In the 800 meters, Meder placed fourth with a run of 1:56.24. Sophomore Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) clocked a seventh-place time of 1:58.58. Kunzler was eighth at 1:58.82.

In the javelin, sophomore Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) recorded a fourth-place toss of 45.21 meters (148-4). Daniels took fifth at 44.01 meters (144-5). Junior Derik Smith (Niles, Michigan / Edwardsburg) was ninth at 36.35 meters (119-3).

In the shot put, sophomore Carter Kruse (Rochester, Michigan / Warren De La Salle) finished fourth at 12.41 meters (40-8 ¾). Sophomore Griffin Bloch (Clinton Township, Michigan / Chippewa Valley) was ninth at 11.35 meters (37-3).

In the triple jump, junior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) posted a fourth-place leap of 11.66 meters (38-3 ¼).

In the 100 meters, Danitz raced to a fifth-place time of 11.09 seconds.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School) ran to a sixth-place time of 9:48.50.

In the 400 hurdles, Woolum took sixth at 56.73. Ennen was ninth at 59.63.

In the pole vault, freshman Keil Reister (Hamilton, Michigan / Hamilton) cleared 3.50 meters (11-5 ¾) for sixth place.

In the hammer throw, sophomore Brendyn Mroz (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grandville) finished sixth with a toss of 44.61 meters (146-4).

In the 200 meters, Danitz placed eighth at 22.23 seconds.

In the 5,000 meters, Woolum recorded an eighth-place time of 16.16 seconds.

In the long jump, Smith posted an eighth-place distance of 6.66 meters (21-10 ¼).

In the discus, sophomore John Wenderski (Livonia, Michigan / University Detroit Jesuit) took eighth at 40.32 meters (132-3).

Hope's next meet is Saturday, April 27, at noon at GVSU.
