Men's Golf Extends Overall Lead Heading into Final Round of the MIAA Season

The Hope College men's golf team has another MIAA championship in sight.

The Flying Dutchmen will take a 23-stroke lead into the final round of MIAA play after finishing in second place on Friday during the opening round of the league's 36-hole Spring Finale.

Hope shot a 303 at the Legacy Golf Course in Adrian — six strokes behind first-place Adrian College. The final round of the Spring Finale tees off on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m.

The team with the lowest cumulative score after 108 holes last fall and this spring is crowned the MIAA champion and receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.

After 90 holes, Hope leads at 1,482 strokes. The Flying Dutchmen are in front of second-place Trine University (1,505), third-place Calvin University (1,513) and fourth-place Adrian (1,520).

On Thursday, senior Logan DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) fired an even-par 72 to lead Hope.

DeWitt is in second place, one stroke behind first-round leader Joe Renfer of Adrian.

Sophomore Liam Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) is tied for fourth after carding a 4-over.

Senior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) chipped in a 78 and is tied for 12th.

Junior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) shot a 79 and is tied for 15th place.

Sophomore Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) posted an 80. 

Junior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll) had an 81.
