Men's Golf Tees Off at NCAA Division III Championships in Nevada

Sophomore Liam Casey fired a 1-over-par 73 to lead Hope College during the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday in Boulder, City, Nevada.

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) carded birdies on three holes and double bogeys on two at the 7,077-yard The Legacy Golf Club.

The MIAA's Most Valuable Golfer is tied for 62nd individually heading into the second round on Tuesday, May 15.

Teams will switch courses for the second round. Casey and the Flying Dutchmen will tee off on the 7,377-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Jackson Klutznick of Emory University (Ga.) tops the field after firing an 8-under-par 64 at Boulder Creek on Monday.

Methodist University (N.C.) finished at 17-under at Boulder Creek to earn a one-stroke lead over Emory in the 43-team field.

The top 18 teams plus ties advance to the final 36 holes on Thursday-Friday, May 16-17, as well as the six lowest-scoring individuals from non-qualifying teams.

The team cutline stands at 6-over (294). Hope posted a first-round 307 and is in 35th place.

Senior Logan DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) posted a first-round 77.

Junior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) chipped in a 78 on Tuesday.

Senior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) shot an opening-round 79.

Junior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll) had an 81.
