Five Chosen for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Softball Teams

Five Hope College student-athlete teams have been chosen for the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators: seniors Alaina Adams, Emily Martin and Samantha Vermeesch, junior Grace Connelly and sophomore Kate DeMann.

The program first recognizes softball Academic All-District® honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. 

A select number of recipients, including Vermeesch, advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later this summer.

Vermeesch (Ithaca, Michigan / Ithaca HS) won a career-high nine victories in the circle this season.

The psychology major and righthander went 9-6 with a career-low 2.07 ERA over 91.1 innings pitched.

Vermeesch was an All-MIAA Second Team selection.

Adams (Oak Creek, Wisconsin / St. Thomas More) made 18 appearances, including 14 in relief, while compiling a 5-1 record.

The nursing major and righthander recorded a 3.99 ERA over 45.2 innings pitched.

Martin (Whitehall, Michigan / Whitehall) registered career-highs in batting average (.336), games played (41) and stolen bases (21).

The English education major matched her career-best with 22 runs scored.

Connelly (Grandville, Michigan / Grandville) posted a 7-2 record in the circle this season.

The communication major and righthander threw 55 innings this season and finished with a 2.80 ERA.

DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) registered career-highs in batting average (.350), hits (42), runs scored (27) and RBIs (25).

The neuroscience major and rightfielder totaled 13 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles and one triple.

The Division III CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions III Academic All-America® programs
