Men's Golf Shoots 298 to Start Competitive Midwest Region Classic

Hope is tied for 13th place at the 44-team event after the opening round

At a competitive Midwest Region Classic, the Hope College men's golf team remained within striking distance after the first-round of play on Friday at Brighton Dale Golf Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin.

Led by junior Liam Casey, the Flying Dutchmen shot a 298 that put them in a tie for 13th place at the 44-team event but just nine strokes off the lead.

Hope is one of 15 teams who shot under 300 on Friday. Lake Forest College (Illinois) leads after a 289.

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) fired a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for ninth place in the individual standings.

Sam Obitts of Wheaton College (Illinois) holds the first-round lead after a 68.

Senior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) is tied for 26th after recording a 73.

Junior Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel), sophomore Hank Roebuck (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Skyline) and freshman Will Thomas (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) all chipped in 77s.
