Men's Golf Places Fifth at 18-Team, Season-Opening Aurora Invite

Led by junior Liam Casey, the Hope College men's golf team placed fifth at the 18-team Aurora University DoubleGun invitational on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen finished 40-over-par for the 36-hole, one-day event with rounds of 313 during the morning and 303 during the afternoon.

Aurora posted the top team total at 3-under (288-285). The host Spartans' Mattias Morris claimed medalist honors at 2-under (71-71).

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) tied for 10th out of 92 golfers at 7-over by carding rounds of 77 and 74.

Senior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) placed one stroke behind Casey in 14th place following identical scores of 76 and 76.

Sophomore Hank Roebuck (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Skyline) tied for 22nd following scores of 79 and 76.

Juniors Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) and Klay Redman (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Coffman) each finished 36th after rounds of 81 and 79, and 82 and 77, respectively.

A second group of Hope golfers took 10th place with team scores of 329 and 316.

Freshman Will Thomas (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) tied for 17th after carding rounds of 73 and 81.

Freshman Matt Mans (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) placed 25th with scores of 80 and 76.

Senior Jack Guerrera (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) finished 43rd after rounds of 83 and 77.

Senior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll) was 82nd with scores of 82 and 83.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Alma College at Pine River Country Club.
