2025 Women's Indoor Track and Field Preview

With a deep and talented roster, the Hope College women's indoor track and field team is pursuing a historic three-peat.

The Flying Dutch can become the first team in program history to claim three consecutive MIAA Indoor titles this season. Hope repeated as MIAA champ once before — in 2021 — but finished runner-up in 2022.

Led by head coach Kevin Cole, the Flying Dutch have won five MIAA titles since the MIAA officially recognized the sport in 2016.

Sprinter Sara Schermerhorn leads Hope's pack. The junior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS) is a returning All-American and record-setting MIAA Indoor Most Valuable Track Athlete.

Schermerhorn is among six returning All-MIAA Indoor recipients for the Flying Dutch.

2025 ROSTER

Hope's roster features a roster of 75 with 12 seniors, 22 juniors, 23 sophomores and 18 freshmen.

Schermerhorn already holds indoor school records in two individual indoor events: the 200 meters at 25.34 seconds and the 400 meters at 56.15 seconds.

The exercise science major also is part of Hope's school-record 4x400 relay that went 3:53.55 last season.

Schermerhorn earned MIAA Most Valuable Indoor Track Athlete accolades last season after setting MIAA records in the 200 and 400 meters and 4x400 relay at the 2024 conference meet. Schermerhorn also finished runner-up in the 60 meters at the conference meet.

One other runner from Hope's champion 4x400 relay is back: junior Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), an exercise science major.

At the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, Schermerhorn became the Flying Dutch's first Indoor All-American in the 400 meters with a seventh-place finish. The two-time indoor national qualifier also placed a personal-best 11th in the 200 meters at indoor nationals.

All four members of Hope's MIAA indoor champion distance medley relay return for Hope: senior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central), junior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, N.H. / Saint Johnsbury), junior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South), and senior Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian). The relay went 12:55.18 at the 2024 conference meet.

There are several more top returning point-earners from the 2024 conference meet for the Flying Dutch.

Senior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) took second in the shot put with a throw of 12.30 meters (40-4 ½).

In the high jump, senior Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) took third in the event after clearing 1.60 meters (5-3). Junior Natalie Christnagel (Grosse Ile, Michigan / Grosse Ile) finished fourth at 1.51 meters (4-11 ½).

Sophomore Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) placed fourth in the 800 meters at 2:23.71.

Senior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) is returning after earning all-region honors in the 4x400 relay last season.
