The 13th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team dominated in the pool en route to a 205-76 victory against nationally-ranked Davenport University on Friday at the Holland Aquatic Center on Senior Day.
Davenport entered the meet ranked 25th in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll. The Flying Dutch also defeated The University of Olivet, 237-30, during the double dual.
Swimmer Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) led Hope with three individual first-place efforts. The senior won the 100 backstroke in 59.05 seconds, the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.11 and the 200 individual medley at 2:10.95.
In the 100 backstroke, Kraus topped a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Flying Dutchmen. Junior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) placed runner-up at 1:00.11. Freshman Megan Wedeking (Lexington, Kentucky / Lexington) took third at 1:02.41. Sophomore Lillian Ryden (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) was fourth at 1:03.17.
In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Madi Remenschneider (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) finished runner-up at 2:31.58.
In the 200 IM, freshman Emme D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) took second behind Kraus at 2:11.65. Hermann was third at 2:13.54.
Two Hope swimmers each placed first in two individual event victories apiece: senior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) and D'Errico.
Gidley clocked the fastest swims in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.09 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 57.35.
In the 50 free, junior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) placed second after Gidley at 24.09. Senior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) was third at 24.68.Â
In the 100 butterfly, junior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) recorded a runner-up swim of 59.54. Freshman Emmy Sower (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) was third at 1:00.21.
D'Errico recorded winning swims in the 200 butterfly at 2:08.13, and the 500 freestyle at 5:18.52.
Junior Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) posted a second-place swim after D'Errico of 5:25.91. Senior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) was third at 5:28.98.
The Flying Dutch won six more events, including both relays.
In the 200 backstroke, Hermann clocked a first-place performance of 2:07.55.
In the 200 freestyle, Wasiniak posted a winning time of 1:54.86. Martin took second at 2:01.59.
In the 200 medley relay, Kraus, Ryle, Gidley and Turner touched the wall at a winning 1:43.14.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Wasiniak, Turner, Gidley and Ryle recorded a first-place time of 1:36.35.
Hope won both events in diving.
On the 3-meter board, senior Molly Leonard (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) finished first with 200.75 points. Senior Hope Weeda (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) was runner-up with 192.25 points.
On the 1-meter board, sophomore Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) took first with 223.05 points.
Turner also finished runner-up in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 52.65 seconds.
Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at Kalamazoo College vs. Kalamazoo and Olivet.
