Men's Swim/Dive Takes Second at GVSU Quad

A third-place, 200-yard freestyle relay led the Hope College men's swimming and diving team during a two-day meet against three NCAA Division II opponents this weekend at Holland Aquatic Center.

The Flying Dutchmen's relay of junior Josh Bordovsky (Herndon Lakes, Virginia / South Lakes), junior Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark), freshman Nolan Smith (Buffalo Grove, Illinois / Buffalo Grove) and sophomore George Marsh (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Seaholm) clocked a third-place swim of 1 minute, 23.59 seconds.

Hope took second place with 624 points over 38 events Friday and Saturday, trailing NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University, which scored 1,264.5.

The Flying Dutchmen finished ahead of NCAA Division II opponents: Saginaw Valley State University (439) and McKendree University, Illinois (438).

Hope recorded fourth-place efforts in three events and fifth-place ones in six more.

Sophomore Luke Wyrick (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / Glenbard West) posted a fourth-place, 200 breaststroke of 2:07.10 and a fifth-place 400 individual medley of 4:10.53.

Bordovsky clocked a fourth-place 200 IM of 1:53.31.

The fourth-place 200 medley relay of Bordovsky, sophomore Luke Newcomb (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton), sophomore Everett Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep) and Eisenmann recorded a swim of 1:33.12.

In the 200 free, Cox finished fifth at 1:41.41.

In the 100 breaststroke, Newcomb took fifth at 57.17.

In the 100 backstroke, freshman Jack Szuba (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) placed fifth at 52.56.

In the 200 back, freshman Ethan Esparza (Rosenberg, Texas / Thomas H. Randle) finished fifth at 1:53.06.

In the 200 butterfly, junior Nick Suranyi (Novi, Michigan / Novi) took fifth at 1:55.07.

In 1-meter diving, freshman Finn Sanders (Wyoming, Michigan / Grandville) was fifth with 224.10 points.

Hope's next meet is the MIAA Invite on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at Holland Aquatic Center.
