Aaron Thomas Medals at U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships

The junior earned bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke this month in Idaho

Hope College junior Aaron Thomas excelled during this month's U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships in Boise, Idaho, earning a bronze medal in one event and qualifying for the A-finals in two more.

The biomedical and biomechanical major from DeWitt, Michigan (DeWitt HS), claimed bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke for his third career medal at the U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships. All three medalists were from the SB9 classification.

Thomas, a two-year letterwinner with the Flying Dutchmen, also reached the finals in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.

In the 100 butterfly, Thomas clocked the second-fastest swim of his career during preliminaries and his fifth-fastest time in the finals. He placed third among swimmers in the S10 classification and ninth overall.

In the 200 IM, Thomas finished fourth overall — and third among swimmers in the SM10 classification. He posted his fifth-fastest swim during preliminaries.

Thomas is missing his pinkie, ring, and middle fingers, and his left index finger only reaches his hand's first knuckle. Brachydactyly, as it is known, is a genetic condition caused by a gene mutation that affects bone growth.
