Women's Track and Field Sprints to NCAA Division III's Second-Fastest 4x400 Relay at DePaul

The Hope College women's track and field team breezed through the Windy City with more elite NCAA Division III times Friday.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Flying Dutch recorded the nation's second-fastest time of the indoor season, winning in 3 minutes, 55.51 seconds behind legs from freshman Jaidyn Klimp (Galesburg, Michigan / Galesburg-Augusta), senior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / St. Johnsbury Academy), freshman Savana Monville (Auburn, Michigan / Bay City Western) and senior Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West).

Hope topped NCAA Division I University of Illinois Chicago, which posted a season-best 3:58.96 to finish runner-up.

Schermerhorn clocked Division III's third-fastest 200-meter time with a runner-up finish of 24.71, trailing NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Anna Szepieniec, who ran 24.68.

Klimp placed sixth in the 200 meters in 26.42. Monville finished eighth in 26.61, while freshman Eliana Kotsonis (Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin / Hamilton) placed 10th in 27.31.

In the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, Klimp recorded a personal-best 9.11 to place sixth, the 19th-fastest time in Division III this season. She matched that time in the finals and again finished sixth.

In the 60-meter dash, Schermerhorn posted identical times of 7.86 seconds in the preliminaries and finals — the nation's 25th-fastest effort this season — to finish sixth.

In the 400 meters, Cozzens placed fifth with a season-best 59.86, ranking 33rd in Division III. Kotsonis finished seventh with a personal-best 1:01.55.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Aurora University Grand Prix near Chicago.
