2025 Hope College Women's Tennis Preview

The 35th-ranked Flying Dutch aim to repeat as MIAA regular-season and tournament champions

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's tennis team is ready to hit the court and add to the trophy case.

Led by senior co-captains Miyako Coffey and Sullivan Moran, the Flying Dutch aim to continue their dominance in the MIAA this season, having won 12 consecutive MIAA Tournament titles and 11 of the past 12 regular-season championships.

Hope also looks to improve on last season's 20-6 overall record, including an 8-0 MIAA record and an NCAA Division III Tournament second-round appearance.

The Flying Dutch are ranked 35th in the latest United States Tennis Association NCAA Division III poll.

Head coach Austin Hunt said his team understands what needs to be done to realize its aspirations.

"We strive to emulate three major attitudes," Hunt said. "First is to bring infectious, positive and progressive energy to our program. Second is to constantly push ourselves whether it be physically, emotionally, mentally, etc. Last, but not least, is to strive for consistency in our efforts in all areas of our lives. This women's team will show up daily and strive for all of these attitudes and identities.

"The current team we've put together has every intention of achieving our goals and is absolutely talented enough to make them all happen."

Roster

Hope's roster of 12 features two seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen.

The Flying Dutch welcome back two of their three All-MIAA selections from last season: Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves HS) and junior Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township). Lopykinski was the MIAA's MVP last season.

Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) has been a key contributor to Hope's starting lineup as well.

The Flying Dutch's junior class consists of Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian), Mallory Matthews (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow), Noa Bowen (North Muskegon, Michigan / North Muskegon) and Lopykinski.

Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit), Phoebe Walker (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central), Makenna Crandall (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) and Kamryn Dumas (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) are returning sophomores.

Kaitlyn Stievater (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) and Hadley Krygier (White Lake, Michigan / Walled Lake Northern) compose the freshman class.

"Along with our captains and our reigning MVP, we've brought in two amazing freshman players, who will contribute greatly to our lineup," Hunt said. "We're very excited to watch this team get after it."
