No. 35-Ranked Women's Tennis Cruises Past Cornerstone

The 35th-ranked Hope College women's tennis team opened the spring season with a rousing performance.

The Flying Dutch rolled to a 9-0 victory against NAIA Cornerstone University on Friday at DeWitt Tennis Center.

In doubles, Hope claimed a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 flight, where senior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves HS) and junior (Lemont, Illinois  / Lemont Township) defeated Renata Castillo and Camila Ibarra.

At No. 2 doubles, senior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and freshman Hadley Krygier (White Lake, Michigan  / Walled Lake Northern) topped Sarah Daza and Daniela Fernandez, 6-1.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Mallory Matthews (Midland, Michigan  / H.H. Dow) and sophomore Makenna Crandell (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) downed Heidi Brandt and Ava Prieditis, 6-1.

In singles, the Flying Dutch did not drop a set.

At No. 1 singles, Krygier served up a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Daza.

At No. 2 singles, Lopykinski blanked Castillo, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Patel topped Ibarra, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 4 singles, Coffey defeated Fernandez, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Kaitlyn Stievater (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) swept Prieditis, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 6 singles, sophomore Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado  / Regis Jesuit) downed Brandt, 6-0, 6-0.

Hope's next match is Saturday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. at No. 17 Case Western Reserve University (Ohio).
