Sara Schermerhorn Repeats as an NCAA Indoor Track All-American in the 400-Meter Run

Hope College sprinter Sara Schermerhorn added to her growing resume with a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships on Saturday in Rochester, New York.

The junior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS) clocked a time of 56.48 seconds during the finals to earn All-America First Team honors in the event for the second consecutive season. Schermerhorn placed seventh in the nation in 2024.

An exercise science major, Schermerhorn has earned All-America accolades four times in indoor competition, including twice as a second-team honoree in the 200 (ninth this season and 11th in 2024).

Brynn Mooney of SUNY-Geneseo captured the national title by posting a run of 55.69 seconds.

Head coach Kevin Cole said Schermerhorn excelled amid challenging competition.

"She has very high expectations for herself," Cole said of the MIAA's Most Valuable Women's Indoor Track Athlete and the first league champion in the 60-, 200- and 400-meter runs in the same year.

"Once you get to nationals, everything needs to go right, especially indoors. There is an element of luck. She was boxed in a few times; that's tough to work with. She did a great job of working through that and was able to come home with another All-America trophy."

Hope finished the two-day meet with two points and tied for 57th place.
