Men's Track and Field Posts Four Top-5 Performances at Emory Spring Break Classic

The Hope College men's outdoor track and field team recorded four top-five performances at the Emory University Spring Break Classic this weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.

Senior Connor Vachon led the Flying Dutchmen during the two-day, non-scoring meet with a 3,000-meter run.

The senior from Jenison, Michigan (Jenison HS) clocked a runner-up time of 8 minutes, 32.37 seconds — just behind event winner Emil Nelson of Williams College (Massachusetts), who finished at 8:31.42.

Two of Vachon's teammates also finished in the top 10 of the 34-runner field.

Junior Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) placed fourth at 8:36.67. Junior Luke Skuratowicz (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) was 10th at 9:03.42.

The Flying Dutchmen took third in two events: the javelin and the 200 meters.

In the javelin, senior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) tossed a throw of 55.73 meters (182 feet, 10 inches) for third place in a field of 56.

Teammate Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) recorded a ninth-place toss of 48.77 meters (160-0).

In the 200 meters, junior Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) clocked a sprint of 21.47 seconds for third place among 126 runners.

Hope placed in the Top 10 in three more events.

In the 800 meters, sophomore Tim Peterson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) posted an eighth-place time of 1:55.63.

In the 1,500-meter invitational, senior Tyler King (Villa Park, Illinois / Willowbrook) finished ninth with a run of 4:01.04.

In the 5,000-meter open, freshman Johan Bannink (Shorewood, Wisconsin / Shorewood) placed 10th at 16:05.24.

The Flying Dutchmen's next meet is Friday-Saturday, April 4-5, at the Grand Valley State University Early Meet in Allendale.
