Women's Track and Field Posts Six Top-3 Efforts at Wheaton Invitational

Hope wins two events on Saturday

The Hope College women's track and field team recorded two first-place performances on Saturday at the Wheaton College (Illinois) Invitational.

The Flying Dutch won the 4x400 relay and the 400-meter run.

In the 4x400 relay, junior Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids HS), junior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy), freshman Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic) and junior Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) clocked a season-best time of 3 minutes. 53.37 seconds. 

The relay ranks 20th in NCAA Division III this outdoor season.
 
In the 400 meters, Leahy topped a field of 24 by posting a run of 56.61 seconds. Cozzens took fourth at 59.85. Senior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) was eighth at 1:01.63.

The Flying Dutch finished runner-up in two events.

In the high jump, senior Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) cleared 1.58 meters (5 feet, 2 ¼ inches) for second place. 

In the 200 meters, Schermerhorn finished runner-up at 24.69 seconds. Leahy finished sixth at 25.41. Fisher was 10th at 26.20.

Hope placed in the Top 10 in 10 more events.

In the javelin, senior Amanda Timonen (Palatine, Illinois / William Fremd) placed third with a toss of 34.84 meters (114-4). Junior Karly Roelofs (Kingsley, Michigan / Kingsley Area) was eighth at 31.76 meters (104-2).

The 4x100 relay of junior Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline), Leahy, Fisher and Schermerhorn clocked a third-place run of 48.03.

In the 1,500 meters, senior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) posted a fifth-place tie of 4:51.05. Senior Noel Vanderbilt (Saugatuck, Michigan / Home School) was 10th at 4:57.78.

In the 100 meters, Schermerhorn finished fifth at 12.48 seconds.

In the 800 meters, junior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) took sixth at 2:19.59, crossing the finish line after five runners from NCAA Division I DePaul University.

In the 400 hurdles, Durow took sixth at 1:07.26.

In the pole vault, sophomore Abigail Cumings (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) placed seventh at 2.85 meters (9-4 ¼).

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Laura Taylor (Yorkville, Illinois / Yorkville) placed eighth at 12:10.10. Freshman Tessa Rindfliesch (Zeeland, Michigan / West Ottawa) was ninth at 12:13.31.

In the shot put, senior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) finished ninth at 11.37 meters (37-3 ¾). 

In the hammer throw, junior Sophia Raymond (Woodstock, Illinois / Woodstock) took 10th at 40.24 meters (132-0).

Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, April 18-19, at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic.
