The Hope College women's tennis team added another chapter to its storied legacy, securing its 13th consecutive MIAA Tournament championship with a 4-1 victory over Kalamazoo College on Friday.
The victory at VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium courts gave Hope another berth in the NCAA Championships. The selection show takes place on Monday, May 5, at noon.
Hope set the pace in doubles play, claiming two of three matches to secure the opening point.
In singles play, Hope's depth proved decisive. Senior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves HS) dominated her match at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, while sophomore Madison Wei (Parker Colorado / Regis Jesuit) added another convincing win at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The match-clinching moment came from freshman Kaitlyn Stievater (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) at No. 6 singles, who served a composed 6-1, 6-4 win.
