Men's Golf Opens MIAA Spring Finale in Second Place, Extends Overall Lead

Hope can clinch another MIAA championship on Thursday, May 8, at Bella Vista GC

The Hope College men's golf team has another MIAA championship within range.

The Flying Dutchmen will take a 16-stroke lead in the 108-hole MIAA seasonal standings into the final round of league play on Thursday, May 8, at Bella Vista Golf Course in Coldwater. The first group tees off at 8 a.m., with the final group at around 10:30 a.m.

On Wednesday, Hope shot an opening-round 302, finishing three strokes behind Calvin University, four ahead of Adrian College and nine better than Trine University. The Flying Dutchmen rallied after trailing Calvin by eight strokes after the front nine.

Entering Wednesday, the Orange and Blue held a 10-stroke lead over Trine and a 19-stroke lead over Calvin after 72 holes last fall.

Now with a season total of 1,463, Hope leads second-place Calvin (1,479), third-place Trine (1,482) and fourth-place Adrian (1,507).

On Wednesday, junior Liam Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) fired a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Flying Dutchmen.

Casey is two strokes off the Spring Finale individual lead, trailing Adrian's Cameron Bozyk (71) and Calvin's Matt Turcotte (72).

Freshman Will Thomas (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) is tied for sixth after carding a 75.

Seniors Jack Guerrera (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) and Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) chipped in 77s and are tied for 12th place.

Hope also received rounds of 81 from junior Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) and 85 from sophomore Hank Roebuck (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Skyline).
