The Hope College women's golf team completed day one of the Calvin/Hope Kickoff Challenge on Friday in the lead.Â
The Flying Dutch 'A' group shot 329 at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan, five strokes better than Calvin's top group. Hope's 'B' group chipped in a 341, while Calvin's second group finished at 384.
Hope heads to home turf on Saturday, August 30, at 2 p.m. at Clearbrook Golf Club to finish the 36-hole, season-opening event.
Junior Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville HS) and freshman Anelise Gatti (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton)Â fired off 7-over-par 79s to tie for second place after day one and trailed first-round leader Brooke Haney of Calvin by four strokes.
Hope's 'A' group also received a sixth-place score of 85 from junior Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City).
Junior Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Carlisle) sits tied for ninth place after shooting an 86.Â
Senior Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) rounded out the Hope 'A' group scores with a 90.Â
Junior Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) led the Hope 'B' group with a fourth-place 81.
Senior Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) fired off an 84 for 5th place.Â
Freshman Gabby Hanover (Mason, Michigan / Mason) put up an 86 for Hope, while freshman Kennedy Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) and senior Hannah Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter) carded a 90 and 94, respectively.Â
