Men's Cross Country Alan Babbitt

No. 14-Ranked Men's Cross Country Takes Fifth Place at WMU George Dales Invitational

In a nine-team field of mostly NCAA Division I runners, the nationally-ranked Hope College men's cross country team raced to a fifth-place finish and two Top-20 individual finishes on Friday at the Western Michigan University George Dales Invitational.

Senior Carston Cole and junior Ian Petruska led the Flying Dutchmen on the 8K course at the Prairies Golf Club in Kalamazoo.

Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) clocked a 14th-place time of 25 minutes, 23.6 seconds. 

Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) placed 18th out of 100 runners with a run of 25:32.4.

Dayton University's Owen Puyks was the individual medalist with a time of 24:30.8.

Oakland University won the meet with 46 points, finishing ahead of Ohio University (62), Dayton (64), Central Michigan University (109) and Hope (124). Seven of the teams were Division I.

Hope, ranked 14th in this week's NCAA Division III national poll by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, put four runners in the top half of the field.

Freshman Aiden Moore (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview) took 26th at 25:50.6.

Senior Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School) recorded a 28th-place effort of 25:56.6.

Sophomore Noah Norris (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Washtenaw Academy) placed 41st at 26:19.2.

Sophomore Max Lewis (Barrington, Illinois / Barrington) finished 45th at 26:26.6.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. Central at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational.
