The Hope College women's golf team turned in a balanced opening round at the Midwest Region Classic, finishing in 11th place out of 39 teams at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin on Friday.
The two-day tournament is hosted by Benedictine University. Hope continues play on Saturday, Sept. 20, with the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. Central.
The Flying Dutch shot 329Â during the first round. The University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minnesota) is in first at 303.
Senior Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) paced the Flying Dutch with a 6-over-par 78. Muir stands in 14th place individually and just six strokes off the lead.
Two teammates joined Muir in the top 40" juniors Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) and Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) each recorded rounds of 82 to tie for 40th.Â
Senior Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven), playing as an individual, matched them with an 82 as well.
Junior Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) posted an 87 for 103rd place, and freshman Anelise Gatti(Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) added an 89 for 117th.
Two more individuals, freshman Gabby Hanover (Mason, Michigan / Mason) and junior Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian), turned in matching rounds of 86 to tie for 89th.
