The Hope College women's golf team delivered a strong start to MIAA play.
The Flying Dutch opened conference play with a third-place finish at the first MIAA Jamboree on Monday, hosted by Calvin University at The Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe.
Hope posted a team score of 319, just four strokes behind first-place Kalamazoo College (315) and three behind second-place Trine University.
There are three more 18-hole events this fall and one 36-hole tournament in the spring. The MIAA champion will be determined by the lowest cumulative total.
On Monday, freshman Anelise Gatti (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton HS) and junior Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) led the way for Hope. Each carded a 6-over-78 to tie for seventh overall.
Junior Rachael Jones(Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) followed closely with an 80, placing 12th individually.
Senior Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) added an 83 to finish 21st. Junior Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) rounded out the team scoring with an 86, good for 33rd place.
Competing individually, junior Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) turned in a solid round of 81 to finish 16th overall.
Hope heads back out on the course to continue MIAA play on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan.
