The Hope College women's golf team kept right in the thick of the MIAA race with a determined effort on Tuesday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
With a third-place team score of 317, the Flying Dutch surged into a second-place tie in the conference standings and only four strokes out of first place.
Hope's 36-hole total of 636 trails leader Trine University (632) and equal with Saint Mary's College (636). On Tuesday, Saint Mary's shot 312, Trine 316.
Junior Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City HS) led the Orange and Blue by tying for medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73. Jones shared the top spot with Kalamazoo's Jillian Smith and Saint Mary's Melanie Maier after posting three birdies and 11 pars on the 5,761-yard course.
Junior Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) claimed sole possession of fourth place after carding a 75.
Freshman Anelise Gatti (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) tied for 26th with an 84.
Junior Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) tied for 33rd with an 85.
Senior Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) tied for 38th with an 88.
Competing as an individual, senior Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) tied for 11th overall after shooting an 80.
Hope is back on the course on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Flying Dutch host Calvin University for a match-play event at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck. The event honors Joan Stafford, the late wife of retired head coach Greg Stafford.
