Men's Track and Field Brett Showers '26

Men's Track and Field Goes 1-2 in the 3,000 Meters at Aurora Grand Prix

The Hope College men's track and field team turned in a strong meet highlighted by multiple victories and top-five indoor finishes across sprints, hurdles, and distance events on Saturday at the Aurora University (Illinois) Grand Prix.

Sophomore Elias Kretchmar (Granville, Ohio/Granville) led the Flying Dutchmen with a first-place effort in the 3,000 meters during the non-scoring meet near Chicago, finishing in 8 minutes, 36.37 seconds. 


Senior Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) followed with a runner-up performance in 8:38.54. 


Sophomore Cooper Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) recorded a personal-best 8:44.77 to place fifth. 


Junior Dylan Terpstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) added another victory for Hope in the 400 meters with a winning time of 48.78 seconds.


Senior Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Catholic Central) earned a second-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line at 1:54.44. 


Freshman Lincoln Phillips (Dorr, Michigan / Hamilton) highlighted the hurdles group with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a personal-best 8.57.


In the mile, Kretchmar placed fifth in 4:15.85. Senior Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) added a personal-best 4:18.46 for 10th place.


Freshman sprinter Maurice Streeter (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) recorded a 6.95 seconds in the 60-meter dash to earn a fifth-place finish.


In the field events, freshman Carter Marquard (Shelbyville, Michigan / Wayland) cleared 1.86 meters (6-1.25) for fourth in the high jump. 


Senior Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer)  led the throws with an 11th-place weight throw (13.27 meters).


Sophomore Jake Punches (Farwell, Michigan / Clare) added a personal-best 12.56 meters


Hope's next meet is the Windy City Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. Central at the University of Chicago.
