Women's Track and Field Brett Showers '26

Women's Track and Field Wins Six Events at Aurora Grand Prix

The Hope College women's track and field team turned in a strong showing at the Aurora University (Illinois) Grand Prix on Saturday, capturing multiple victories and personal-best performances while demonstrating depth across sprints, hurdles, middle-distance, distance, and field events.

Senior Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) paced the Flying Dutch with wins in both the 200 meters (25.03 seconds) and the 400 meters (56.11). She also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.90.


Senior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) captured first place in the 800 meters in 2:19.98, while junior Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) finished sixth in 2:26.98.


Junior Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) earned a victory in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:26.92. Freshman Anna Sybenga (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) followed with a third-place finish and a personal-best 10:35.56. 


Sophomore Olivia Ippel (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) captured first in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 18:16.02. 


In the field, senior Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan/Monroe) earned a victory in the shot put with a season-best 11.82 meters (38 feet, 9.50 inches). Senior Karly Roelofs (Kingsley, Michigan / Kingsley Area) followed with a fifth-place finish, throwing a season-best 10.82 meters.


Junior Elise Bodary (New Boston, Michigan/Father Gabriel Richard) added a third-place finish in 19:12.51. Sophomore Nidia Martinez (Fennville, Michigan/Fennville) recorded a personal-best 19:27.17 to place sixth, while Rylie Kraus (Granville, Ohio/Granville) set a personal-best 19:29.66 for seventh.


Freshman Jaidyn Klimp (Galesburg, Michigan/Galesburg Augusta) added a pair of top-five finishes with a third-place 60-meter hurdles in 9.34 and a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.62 meters (5-3.75).


Hope's 4x400-meter relay team of Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois Montini Catholic), Jaidyn Klimp (Galesburg, Michigan / Galesburg Augusta), Savana Monville (Auburn, Michigan Bay City Western), and Eliana Kotsonis (Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin / Hamilton) finished fifth in 4:09.83.


Hope's next meet is the Windy City Rumble on Friday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. Central at the University of Chicago.
