Men's Track and Field Delivers Strong Performances at Michigan, GVSU Invites

The Hope College men's track and field team split competition between the GVSU Tune-Up, hosted by Grand Valley State University, and the Silverston Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, on Friday and recorded top-five finishes across both meets.

Hope's top performance of the weekend came in Ann Arbor, where the 4x400-meter relay team of Kevin Barifagok (Las Vegas, Nevada / Cristo Rey Saint Viator), Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Catholic Central), Dylan Terpstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), and Luke Bellino (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) captured first place in 3:14.31. The time stands as a season best and ranks No. 8 nationally in NCAA Division III.

At GVSU, senior Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) posted a runner-up finish in the 1-mile at 4 minutes, 15.90 seconds. Senior Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) followed closely behind with a third-place finish in 4:16.23, clocking a personal best.

Freshman Gavin Grover (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / St. Francis) contributed a fourth-place finish in the pole vault at Michigan, clearing 4.24 meters (13 feet, 11 inches).

Sophomore Kevin Barifagok also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at Michigan, clocking 8.43 seconds in the finals.

Sophomore Logan Lipka (Frankenmuth, Michigan / Frankenmuth) also secured a fifth-place finish at GVSU in the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal-best 8.66 seconds.

Freshman Maurice Streeter (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) added a strong sprint performance at Michigan, finishing sixth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.88 seconds after advancing to the finals.

Hope will next compete at the MIAA Indoor Championships, presented by Collegiate Credit Union, on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28, hosted by Trine University in Angola, Indiana.
