No. 11 Women's Swim/Dive Wins Five Events at No. 13 Calvin

The Hope College women's swimming and diving team competed in its final dual meet of the season Friday, winning four events at Calvin University.

The 11th-ranked Flying Dutch posted a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The 13th-ranked Knights won the dual meet, 184-111. The result does not factor into determining the MIAA champion.

In the 100 backstroke, freshman Claudia Busse (Grand Haven, Michigan/Grand Haven) won in 58.91 seconds. Teammate Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan/Grandville) finished second in 59.97.

Senior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan/Mercy) won the 50 freestyle in 23.64 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.68.

Freshman Grace Dawson (Jackson, Michigan/West Ottawa) recorded a winning 1-meter total of 263.46 points and a first-place 3-meter score of 283.27.

The Flying Dutch finished second in four additional events, including the 200 medley relay. Gidley, senior Madi Remenschneider (Holland, Michigan/West Ottawa), Wasiniak and senior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan/Chelsea) posted a time of 1:46.48.

In the 100 butterfly, senior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan/Mercy) finished second in 58.79, 0.14 seconds behind Calvin's Grace Schutter.

In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Emme D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan/Farmington) placed second in 2:12.92.

In the 500 freestyle, freshman Brianna Elliott (El Paso, Texas/Maxine L. Silva Magnet) finished second in 5:24.37.

Hope will compete next at the MIAA Championships from Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 18-21, at the Holland Aquatic Center. All-session and single-session tickets are available through the MIAA website.
